SCENTED CANDLE FaQs

Why we use 100% wooden wicks?

Compared to traditional cotton wicks, wooden wicks offer a clean burn,a longer-lasting performance, and wider fragrance throw. The wooden wicks also create a beautiful cracking sound when burning. You will feel like sitting next to a bonfire. Black Blaze uses double-ply natural wood wicks sourced from eco-friendly suppliers. We’ve carefully chosen and tested the type of wood. The thickness and width of our wicks are well-designed so that it offers a clean and consistent burning experience.

Why is 100% natural soy wax better?

Black Blaze uses 100% natural soy wax for our scented candle products. Soy wax is a vegetable wax derived from soybean so it’s a natural, renewable resource. Soy wax is an excellent fragrance carrier as it does not require chemical amplifiers. It burns with zero petrol black soot and less smoke, creating a cleaner ambience and less sooty residue, without leaving wax on the sides of the container.

What should I know before the initial use?

In order to get the best results with our scented candles, we suggest that burn your candle for 30mins to 60 mins during its first burn until the wax has completely melted and the top of the candle has liquified forming a “burning pool”. The “burning pool” formed for your initial burn is important for subsequent candle burnings. The uneven surface may cause Inconsistent burning, flickering flames, and black soots. Unlike the cotton wicks, patience is required for the first burn. Wooden wicks may take up 3-5 seconds more to catch fire than traditional cotton ones.

Why it is important to trim the wicks each time before you burn the candle?

Keeping the wooden wicks trimmed between 2mm to 4mm helps control the amount of melted wax and prolong the burn time of the candle so that the candle burns more evenly and limits the amount of smoke. Leaving a longer wick means a larger flame, which requires more wax as fuel and can lead to incomplete combustion, making your candle container dirty. Trimming the wooden wicks to a proper length allows you to have a clean burn each time when you burn the candles.

The safety issues you should know before lighting the candle.

-Don’t leave the candle in a drafty area and keep the candle away from any inflammable material.-Stray breezes cause the candle to burn unevenly and flickering flames, which causes incomplete combustion and black soot. Stay away from vents, fans, open windows, AC units, and any other locations where the flame might be exposed to wind.
-Place candles on a stable, even, and heat-resistant surface so that the heat will not damage your furniture.

How to avoid smoke and flame flickers while burning candles?

It's normal that there would be a small amount of smoke when you just ignite or extinguish the candle. However, you do need to check the places where you place the candle and the lengthen of wicks if a large amount of smoke or soot appears with a flickering flame while burning.Stay away from vents, fans, open windows, AC units, and any other locations where the flame might be exposed to wind.Check the length of the wicks. If the wicks are too long, extinguish the candle and trim the wicks to a proper length of 2mm-4mm. Clean up the candle container and relight the candle after it resolidifies.

How to safely extinguish the candles ?

We recommend using a candle snuffer to safely extinguish a candle and avoid smoke.
Do not blow the candle out too forcefully and avoid the droplets of wax spray and black soot.

Why sometimes the candle cannot catch fire ?

Wooden wicks require a bit of maintenance and patience. It may take up 3-5 seconds more to catch fire than the traditional cotton wicks. Sometimes when wicks are too long, they may not catch fire easily. Trim the wicks properly and have another 1-2 tries will solve the problem.

Do not leave candles burning unattended.
Stop burning the candle when the wax lower than 1cm. For safety concerns, we do not recommend burning the candle all the way down to the bottom to get the very last scent from the remaining wax as the container may become too hot and the wicks may become unstable.

However, sweating caused by temperature change does not affect the quality of the candle. You can simply wipe the excess oil off with paper towels or tissue.

Why does my candle have bubbles when burning?

Pouring the liquid wax into the containers when making the candles will bring some air into containers. There might be some air bubbles when burning. It will disappear soon after candles burning. This is natural and will not affect the burning quality of the candle.

Just gently push the hard rim of the candle inwards to the burning flame. The rising heat will melt the wax of the tunneling side.
