Some collaborations begin with a simple idea. For this one, we started with a cake that many Australians already know by sight: Black Star Pastry’s Strawberry Watermelon Cake. Instantly recognisable and layered with texture, it offered something we were drawn to — not only flavour, but atmosphere, familiarity, and a sense of occasion.
Rather than treating the cake as a visual reference alone, we approached it as a scent story. Rose-scented cream, fresh watermelon, strawberries, pistachio, and soft meringue each brought their own character. The challenge was to translate that balance into fragrance — something light, bright, and gently nostalgic, without becoming overly sweet.
The result is a candle that feels playful, airy, and a little unexpected. Fruity notes sit alongside florals and creamier facets, creating a scent that carries both freshness and softness. It recalls the pleasure of a dessert shared at the table, while taking on a new form in the home.
For us, the collaboration was less about replication than reinterpretation. It was a way of taking something already familiar and allowing it to be experienced differently — through scent rather than flavour, and through memory rather than taste.
Like many of our fragrances, it sits somewhere between the literal and the atmospheric. In this case, the reference is unmistakable, yet the candle is designed to live beyond novelty: as a light, uplifting scent for everyday use, and as a small reminder of how closely fragrance and flavour can speak to one another.
