Product Care & FAQs

Scented Candle FAQs

Black Blaze scented candles are made with 100% natural soy wax — a plant-based, renewable material derived from soybeans. Soy wax is an excellent fragrance carrier that requires no chemical amplifiers, burns cleanly with minimal soot and smoke, and leaves little to no residue on the vessel walls.

Burn your candle for 30 to 60 minutes on the first use, until the entire surface has melted into an even wax pool. This initial melt pool sets the memory of the candle — if interrupted too early, the candle may tunnel on subsequent burns, leaving unburned wax around the edges. Black Blaze candles use wooden wicks, which may take 3–5 seconds longer to catch than cotton wicks — this is normal.

Keep the wick trimmed to between 2–4mm before each use. A wick that is too long produces a larger flame, burns through wax faster, and can cause incomplete combustion, excess soot, and a darkened vessel. Regular trimming ensures a clean, even burn and extends the life of your candle.

We recommend burning for no more than three hours in a single session. Stop use when the wax reaches 1cm from the base — at this point the vessel may become too hot and the wick unstable. Never leave a burning candle unattended.

A small amount of smoke when lighting or extinguishing a candle is normal. Persistent flickering or soot usually indicates the wick needs trimming, or the candle is in a drafty location. Keep candles away from air vents, fans, open windows, and air conditioning units. Airflow disrupts the flame, causes uneven burning, and accelerates wax consumption.

Use a candle snuffer where possible — this minimises smoke and prevents wax splatter. If blowing out the flame, do so gently. Avoid forceful breath, which can send hot wax droplets onto surfaces or into the vessel.

Once the wax has cooled completely, trim the wick to 2–4mm, remove any burnt residue or debris from the surface, and replace the lid if one is provided. This keeps the fragrance preserved and the vessel clean for the next burn.

Soy wax is sensitive to temperature fluctuation. In warm conditions, natural oils within the wax may rise to the surface, creating a slight sheen or moisture. This does not affect the quality or performance of the candle — simply wipe away with a soft cloth or tissue before burning.

Air can become trapped in the wax during the pouring process. Any visible bubbles will disappear naturally once the candle is lit and the surface wax begins to melt. This is a characteristic of hand-poured candles and does not affect burn quality.

Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Heat and UV exposure can cause soy wax to soften, discolour, or sweat, and may affect fragrance intensity over time. Keep lids on when not in use to protect the scent.

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep away from curtains, paper, and all flammable materials. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not place beneath shelves or in enclosed spaces — significant heat rises above a burning flame. Do not move a candle while lit. Always place on a stable, heat-resistant surface.

Diffusers FAQs

Black Blaze offers three diffuser formats, each designed to suit different spaces and intentions. Reed Diffusers deliver a gentle, consistent scent and work best in small to medium spaces such as bathrooms and entryways. Sculpture Diffusers offer a stronger scent throw, making them well suited to larger living areas. Lava Rock Diffusers provide a subtle, intimate fragrance — ideal for a bedside table or console.

Remove the stopper and insert the reeds into the bottle. After 24 hours, flip the reeds to saturate the dry ends and boost the initial scent throw. Place your diffuser away from direct sunlight, air vents, and high-traffic areas to slow evaporation and extend its life.

Flip the reeds every one to two weeks — the more frequently you flip, the more intense the fragrance. Adding more reeds will also increase scent throw. Keep in mind that flipping reeds more often will cause the oil to evaporate faster.

Typically two to three months, depending on the number of reeds used, room size, airflow, and how often the reeds are flipped. Warmer rooms and higher airflow will cause the oil to diffuse more quickly.

Apply a few drops of Black Blaze Diffuser Oil directly onto the lava stone. The porous surface absorbs the oil and releases scent gradually into the surrounding space. Reapply when the fragrance fades — usually every few days depending on the oil used and room conditions.

Place your diffuser in an area with gentle air circulation — a hallway, bedroom, or bathroom works well. Avoid placing directly under air conditioning vents or in direct sunlight, as this accelerates evaporation. Elevating the diffuser on a shelf or tray allows scent to disperse downward more naturally.

Decorative Candle FAQs

Allow the candle to burn for at least 20 minutes on the first use, until an even melt pool forms across the full surface. This prevents tunnelling and ensures an even burn throughout the candle's life.

Black Blaze decorative candles are made from natural plant-based wax, which has a lower melting point than paraffin and may produce some dripping during use. Wider column candles drip less and burn longer. We recommend placing all pillar candles on a heat-resistant holder or candle plate to catch any wax.

If you prefer a drip-free experience, consider the Twig Bendable Candle — made from pure beeswax, it produces minimal to no dripping in a stable environment free from drafts and movement. Beeswax also burns cleaner and longer than most other wax types.

Gently press the hardened rim inward toward the flame. The heat will gradually melt the unburned wax and restore an even surface.

Allow the wax to cool and solidify completely, then gently peel away any excess. Natural plant-based wax is softer than paraffin and lifts away easily without damage.

Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant holder. When burning two or more candles together, keep at least 10cm between each to allow even combustion and reduce the risk of instability.

We recommend burning for no more than two hours at a time. Stop use when the wax reaches 1cm from the base — burning below this point can cause the holder to overheat and the wick to become unstable.

For the Column Pillar Candle, due to its slender form, we recommend limiting each burn session to no more than 30 minutes. Monitor the candle closely during use and extinguish if you notice any instability or excessive dripping.

Trim the wick to between 2–4mm before each use. A wick that is too long will produce a larger flame, excess soot, and reduce the candle's overall burn time.

No. The decorative candle range is entirely fragrance-free, with no artificial additives or fragrance compounds. They are designed for use in spaces where scent is not appropriate — dining tables, intimate gatherings, or where a purely visual and atmospheric presence is preferred.

Keep candles away from air movement — fans, open windows, air conditioning vents, and drafts accelerate burn and can cause uneven combustion and flickering. Check that the wick is trimmed to 2–4mm before lighting.

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep away from curtains, paper, and other flammable materials. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not place beneath shelves or in enclosed spaces — significant heat rises above a burning flame. Do not move a candle while lit.

Brass Products FAQs

Yes. All Black Blaze brass pieces are made from 100% solid brass — not brass-plated. Solid brass has a warmth and density that plated metals cannot replicate, and it develops character over time in a way that is entirely its own.

Our original brass pieces have a treated surface with an applied oxidation layer, giving them a darker, more aged appearance from the outset. Our newer pieces, including the Twig collections, are left in their natural uncoated state, allowing the brass to age and patina gradually through use and environment.

Wipe gently with a dry or lightly damp cloth to remove dust or residue. Do not use hot water, a blow dryer, or any chemical cleaners on the surface. If wax has dripped onto the piece, allow it to cool and solidify completely before peeling away gently by hand — never use sharp tools or scrapers, which will damage the finish.

Natural brass is left intentionally uncoated to age honestly over time. Avoid prolonged contact with acidic or saline substances, as these may accelerate oxidation or cause spotting. After exposure to moisture, dry the surface promptly with a soft cloth. If you prefer to maintain the original lustre, apply Brasso metal polish gently with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive pads or harsh chemical cleaners.

Natural uncoated brass will develop a gentle patina through oxidation — this is not a flaw, but the character of the material itself, quietly transforming and becoming unique to you. Treated brass pieces are more stable in appearance but should still be kept away from prolonged moisture and chemical exposure.

Handle with care — solid brass is substantial in weight. Avoid frequent contact with bare hands where possible, as natural oils and perspiration can affect the surface over time. Keep dry and store away from humid environments when not in use.

Marble Products FAQs

Black Blaze works with several natural stone varieties across our collections, including Rosso Levanto, Verde Alpi Marble, and Travertine. Each stone is quarried naturally, meaning no two pieces are identical — variation in veining, tone, and surface texture is inherent to the material and part of what makes each piece distinct.

Natural stone varies between cuts. The veining, colour distribution, and surface markings on your piece will differ slightly from those shown in product photography — this is not a defect, but the nature of working with a living material. Each piece is unique.

Our marble pieces, including the Oasis Serving Platter and Marble Coaster Set, are made from natural, unsealed stone. As marble is a porous material, we recommend avoiding direct prolonged contact with food — particularly acidic, oily, or strongly pigmented ingredients — as these may leave marks or be absorbed into the surface. For serving use, we suggest lining the surface with baking paper or a cloth before placing food directly on the stone.

Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap if needed. Dry thoroughly immediately after — do not allow water to sit on the surface, as prolonged moisture can cause staining or surface dulling. Avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar, citrus-based products, and abrasive cloths or scouring pads, all of which can etch or scratch the stone surface.

No. Always hand wash marble pieces. Dishwasher detergents are too harsh for natural stone and will damage the surface over time.

Natural marble is sensitive to acids, oils, and moisture. Etching — a slight dulling or mark on the surface — can occur when acidic substances such as citrus, wine, or vinegar come into contact with the stone. This is a characteristic of unsealed natural marble rather than a manufacturing fault.

Minor surface scratches and etching can often be addressed by a professional stone restoration specialist. We recommend seeking a qualified marble restoration service in your area rather than attempting to sand or polish the surface yourself, as incorrect treatment may cause further damage.

We do not recommend placing very hot cookware or vessels directly onto marble surfaces. While stone is naturally heat-resistant, sudden or extreme temperature changes can cause thermal shock, which may crack or discolour the stone. Use a trivet or heat-resistant mat as a buffer.

Store marble objects on a stable, flat surface away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature changes. Avoid stacking marble pieces directly on top of one another without padding in between, as contact between stone surfaces may cause scratching.

Wipe clean with a soft damp cloth. Dry immediately after contact with water. Avoid acids, oils, and abrasive materials. Do not dishwash. Handle with care — natural stone is heavy and can chip if dropped or knocked.
